Nature Weeks
Our nature weeks are designed to introduce you to the fascinating and varied wildlife of the Pyrenees. Your guides, Nick and Simon, are both well qualified in biology and ecology and have led wildlife walks in many areas of the world. Apart from the stunning flora of this region, it is home to several species of butterflies and birds of prey, including Red Kites, Eagles and Vultures. The mountains also provide a refuge for chamois, pine martins, marmottes, wolves, water voles, lynx and a few brown bears. The Bears are being reintroduced to the area after near-extinction, and are a pet project of Nicks, being the subject of his Masters Degree thesis.

The week is based in the lovely Chez Passet Chambres d’Hotes near Lourdes’ and the day walk will be structured according to weather conditions and animal sightings. Generally you can expect to spend a couple of days bird watching and some time ‘tracking’ mammals that are harder to find. We can of course make no guarantees that the elusive lynx or bear will be spotted, but our guides will use their skill and knowledge to attempt to gain sightings and to provide as much information on the wildlife environment and animal habitations as possible.
